I watched the Sci-Fi Channel's Earthsea series earlier this week. While it wasn't absolute dreck (comparing it to other sf/f offerings on TV in the last few years), it also wasn't all that great. Someone less objective than me, like the author of the books that failed to materialize in a form that did them justice, might be less kind. And Ursula K. LeGuin is indeed much less kind. Her article/rant/essay includes insights into the movie adaptation process and how racially diverse material often gets white-washed in Hollywood. Worth a read.
