A high fraction of stars in our galaxy appear to be in binary or other multiple systems. It's been speculated that it is possible for binaries to have planets (the planet is in close orbit around one star or a distant orbit around a close pair, to be more likely to be stable). Now there is observational evidence to suggest that planets form in binary systems just as commonly as they do in single-star systems.
